What do we do?
- Why did incumbent firms lose to a newcomer in the AI battle?
- Objective: This research is motivated by the challenge that leading firms struggle to respond promptly to generative AI market changes due to the increasing complexity of open innovation processes. Traditional competitor analysis methods are inadequate for the exponential speed of AI advancement and intricate innovation networks. The research aims to develop AI-powered tools that help firms accurately monitor competitors’ technological trajectories and manage strategic uncertainties in the generative AI era.

- Formulating management principles on utilizing generative AI to sustain competitive advantage
- Objective: This research is motivated by the observation that while ChatGPT has demonstrated generative AI’s disruptive potential, many other research developments and implications remain overlooked, and surprisingly, tech giants with exclusive access to big data and computation power have failed to maintain their expected dominance in this field. The study seeks to unlock this mystery through a comprehensive analysis combining academic research trends, patent evolution, and commercial platform evaluation to understand where generative AI technology is truly headed and why established leaders are struggling.

Why does this matter?
Data or Insight: What really drives decisions?
As the nature of data and the ways to access it are constantly evolving, it is essential to adapt to the new approaches for analyzing data in order to create insights by uncovering hidden patterns through the latest technologies. Such insights constitutes a fundamental foundation for both academics and practitioners in making informed decisions within an increasingly dynamic and competitive global environment. Without properly prepared data, however, data-driven decision making becomes impossible.
Without effective management, technology is merely like a stack of books left in the corner of a library. It does not help us move forward. So does information. Value is created only when information is effectively utilized through technologies, and it is this value that enables progress. While the role of an information provider has largely been replaced by Google, the role of insight creator remianes irreplcaeable.
Challenge in big data era
While the the availability of data supports informed decision-making, the quality of such decisions can deteriorate once the volume of data exceeds a certain threshold. At that point, excessive information may hinder judgement and increase the likelihood of error. This presents a significant challenge in the era of big data. Consequently, it is crucial to identify and quantify this threshold through rigorous scientific methods.
